1. Additives

The Additives Clan and Family should be used for food additive products when they are sampled as such either on retail sale or as part of an inspection of a food premise.

1.1. Family 1.01 – Additives

Flavourings	Flavourings	01.01.04.01	Flavourings Type is specifically for additives that are added to another food to impart a flavour or odour. It is not for food products such as herbs and spices which may be incorporated into a compound food even though the purpose of doing so is to impart a flavour.
Preservatives	Preservatives	01.01.05.01	Preservatives Type includes products defined as such in the relevant Regulations.
Sweeteners	Sweeteners	01.01.06.01	Sweeteners Type includes products defined as such in the relevant Regulations.
Miscellaneous Additives – Other	Miscellaneous Additives - Other	01.01.07.01	Miscellaneous Additives - Other Type includes products defined in the relevant Regulations but which do not have a specific type allocated to them
Additive Mixtures	Additive Mixtures	01.01.08.01	Additive Mixtures Type should be used for mixtures of two or more different types of food additives such as the “seasoning mix” that may be added to meat products to add colour and preservative. It should not be used for a mixture of two additives of the same type such as a mixture of two food colours.
Food Enzymes	Food Enzymes	01.01.09.01	Food Enzymes Type includes products described as such in the relevant regulations.
