Cereal Grains Type is for grains of cereal which may or may not have been de-husked but which have not gone through any further processing. Rice should not be included in this Type. It should not contain manufactured food products of any sort. |

Prepared Breakfast Cereal Type includes all prepared products such as Corn Flakes, Rice Krispies etc intended to be eaten as part of breakfast. It should not include porridge oats but prepared “instant” porridge products should be included here. |
Muesli |

Muesli Type includes mixtures of cereals and fruit normally eaten for breakfast. The reason for separating this out from other breakfast cereals is that the nature of the product is such that it will frequently require a different type of analysis. |

Porridge Oats and Oatmeal |

Porridge Oats and Oatmeal Type has been introduced as samples of this type of product were being classified into several different locations in the category tree. Providing a specific location will prevent this continuing to happen. Only porridge oats and oatmeal should be included here; prepared “instant” porridge products should be classified as Prepared Breakfast Cereals. |

Pasta and Pasta Products - Other Type should be used for all other dry pastas and pasta products that cannot be better categorised in any of the other types. A large number of disparate food products are likely to be included in this type but none are sufficiently predominant to justify a separate Type being created. |

Rice – cooked Type is for all types of cooked rice and in particular will be used for samples collected during inspections of food premises. When taken from take-away and restaurant premises this type should be used when rice is sampled on its own; the Prepared Meals types should only be used if the rice is sampled as part of a prepared meal consisting of at least two food components. |
