6. Drinks#

This Clan deals with samples of drinks such as wine, alcoholic drinks, water, soft drinks, fruit juices and fruit drinks. It does not include beverages such as cocoa, tea, coffee and similar hot drinks which are specifically categorised elsewhere

6.1. Family 6.01 – Wine#

It is not to be used for “alcopops” and any prepared drinks or cocktails.
Fortified Wine	Sherry	06.01.03.01	Sherry Type is to be used for products of sherry.
	Port	06.01.03.02	Port Type is to be used for products of port.
	Martini	06.01.03.03	Martini Type is to be used for products of martini.
	Wine - other Fortified	06.01.03.99	Wine - other Fortified Type is to be used products of fortified wine other than sherry, port or martini. This type must not be used for fortified British wine.
Sparkling Wine	Wine - Sparkling - Red	06.01.04.01	Wine - Sparkling – Red Type has been retired as such products are not being sampled in sufficient numbers to justify them being separately categorised.
	Wine - Sparkling - White	06.01.04.02	Wine - Sparkling – White Type is to be used for sparkling wines such as champagne and cava.
	Wine - Sparkling - Rose	06.01.04.03	Wine - Sparkling – Rose Type has been retired as such products are not being sampled in sufficient numbers to justify them being separately categorised.
Fruit Wine	Fruit Wine	06.01.05.01	Fruit Wine Type is to be used for wines made from fruits other than grapes such as elderberry wine, peach wine, hedgerow wine etc.
Wine - Other	Wine - Other	06.01.99.99	Wine – Other Type is to be used for products such as mulled wine and fortified British wine (which is a product manufactured by a process other than fermentation).

6.2. Family 6.02 – Alcoholic Drinks#

	Stout - Low-Alcohol	06.02.01.06	Stout - Low-Alcohol type is to be used for stouts that have an alcohol content of less than 2 per cent but which are not alcohol-free.
Cider and Perry	Cider	06.02.02.01	Cider Type is to be used for products prepared by the fermentation of apples.
	Perry	06.02.02.02	Perry Type is to be used for products prepared by the fermentation of pears.
Spirits	Whisky	06.02.03.01	Whisky Type is to be used for spirit drinks with an alcohol content of not less than 40 per cent and described as whisky or whiskey and includes American whiskies such as bourbon but not Southern Comfort.
	Vodka	06.02.03.02	Vodka Type is to be used for spirit drinks with an alcohol content of not less than 37.5 per cent and described as vodka. This type must not be used for prepared drinks which have vodka as a base alcoholic ingredient.
	Gin	06.02.03.03	Gin Type is to be used for spirit drinks with an alcohol content of not less than 37.5 per cent and described as gin. This type must not be used for prepared drinks which have gin as a base alcoholic ingredient.
	Rum - White	06.02.03.04	Rum – White Type is to be used for colourless spirit drinks with an alcohol content of not less than 37.5 per cent and described as rum and includes Bacardi. This type must not be used for prepared drinks which have rum as a base alcoholic ingredient and also must not be used for “Morgan’s Spiced Rum” which is a dark rum.
	Rum - Dark	06.02.03.05	Rum – Dark Type is to be used for dark coloured spirit drinks with an alcohol content of not less than 37.5 per cent and described as rum. This type must not be used for prepared drinks which have rum as a base alcoholic ingredient. It should be used for “Morgan’s Spiced Rum”
	Brandy	06.02.03.06	Brandy Type is to be used for spirit drinks with an alcohol content of not less than 36 per cent and described as brandy and includes cognac
	Spirits - Other	06.02.03.99	Spirits – Other type is to be used for other spirit drinks which cannot be correctly allocated to one of the other spirit drink categories and includes spirit drinks with an alcoholic content lower than that specified for named drinks.
Prepared Alcoholic Drinks	Cocktails	06.02.04.01	Cocktails Type is to be used for mixtures of alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks and other food ingredients.
	Liqueurs	06.02.04.02	Liqueurs Type is to be used drinks such as Baileys and Southern Comfort as well as other products described as liqueur. It is not to be used for liqueur chocolates.
	“Alcopops”	06.02.04.03	“Alcopops” Type is to be used for prepared drinks which have become to be known by this name and which include a sprit drink base along with non-alcoholic ingredients.
	Prepared Alcoholic Drinks - Other	06.02.04.99	Prepared Alcoholic Drinks - Other Type is to be used for other prepared alcoholic drinks which cannot be more appropriately included elsewhere. The creation of a new type for “Alcopops” should significantly reduce the number of samples being included in this type.
Alcoholic Drinks - Other	Alcoholic Drinks - Other	06.02.99.99	Alcoholic Drinks - Other Type is to be used for alcoholic drinks of any sort that cannot be more appropriately included in another type.

6.3. Family 6.03 – Packed Water#

	Water - Natural Mineral Sparkling	06.03.01.02	Water - Natural Mineral Sparkling Type is to be used for products that consist of natural mineral water that complies with the appropriate statutory requirements and which has been carbonated. This type must not be used for any flavoured water or any drink to which additional ingredients have been added; these products are soft drinks and must be allocated to an appropriate type.
Spring Water	Water – Spring Still	06.03.02.01	Water – Spring Still Type is to be used for products that consist of spring water that complies with the appropriate statutory requirements and which has not been carbonated. This type must not be used for any flavoured water or any drink to which additional ingredients have been added; these products are soft drinks and must be allocated to an appropriate type.
	Water - Spring Sparkling	06.03.02.02	Water – Spring Sparkling Type is to be used for products that consist of spring water that complies with the appropriate statutory requirements and which has been carbonated. This type must not be used for any flavoured water or any drink to which additional ingredients have been added; these products are soft drinks and must be allocated to an appropriate type.
Ice	Ice	06.03.03.01	Ice Type is to be used for frozen water when it is sampled as such.
Packed Water - Other	Packed Water - Other Still	06.03.04.01	Packed Water - Other Still Type is to be used for products that consist of water other than natural mineral water and spring water and which have not been carbonated. This type must not be used for any flavoured water or any drink to which additional ingredients have been added; these products are soft drinks and must be allocated to an appropriate type.
	Packed Water - Other Sparkling	06.03.04.02	Packed Water - Other Sparkling Type is to be used for products that consist of water other than natural mineral water and spring water and which have been carbonated. This type must not be used for any flavoured water or any drink to which additional ingredients have been added; these products are soft drinks and must be allocated to an appropriate type.

6.4. Family 6.04 – Fruit Juices#

It does not include tomato juice which is regarded as a vegetable for this purpose. It should not be used for fruit juice drinks and manufactured products such as fruit smoothies.
	Fruit Juice – UHT	06.04.01.03	Fruit Juice UHT Type is to be used for products consisting solely of fruit juice without any additional ingredients and without any further processing other than subjection to a heat treatment process which complies with the requirements for Ultra Heat Treatment. It does not include tomato juice which is regarded as a vegetable for this purpose. It should not be used for fruit juice drinks and manufactured products such as fruit smoothies.
	Fruit Juice – No Heat Treatment	06.04.01.04	Fruit Juice No Heat Treatment Type is to be used for products consisting solely of fruit juice without any additional ingredients and without any further processing including heat treatment. It does not include tomato juice which is regarded as a vegetable for this purpose. It should not be used for fruit juice drinks and manufactured products such as fruit smoothies.
Fruit Nectar	Fruit Nectar	06.04.02.01	Fruit Nectar Type is to be used for drinks that consist of fruit juice with added sugar and water. It should not be used for fruit juice drinks and manufactured products such as fruit smoothies.

6.5. Family 6.05 – Soft Drinks#

	Drinks - Reduced Calorie/Diet, Carbonated	06.05.01.02	Drinks - Reduced Calorie/Diet, Carbonated Type is to be used for products which consist of carbonated soft drinks such as diet lemonade, diet cola drinks etc and for which a reduced-calorie or diet claim is made in the labelling and which normally contain artificial sweeteners as the principal sweetening agent. It also includes similar products which purport to be natural mineral water or spring water but which contain flavours, sweetening agents and other added ingredients.
	Tonic Water	06.05.01.03	Tonic Water type is to be used for products described as such.
	Soda Water	06.05.01.04	Soda Water type is to be used for products described as such.
	Shandy	06.05.01.05	Shandy Type is to be used for a mixture of beer (of any type) and a soft drink.
	Beer - Alcohol-Free	06.05.01.06	Beer - Alcohol-Free Type is to be used for beer, ale or bitter from which all the alcohol has been removed. It is not to be used for low-alcohol beer.
	Lager - Alcohol-Free	06.05.01.07	Lager - Alcohol-Free Type is to be used for lager beer from which all the alcohol has been removed. It is not to be used for low-alcohol lager beer.
	Stout - Alcohol-Free	06.05.01.08	Stout - Alcohol-Free Type is to be used for stout from which all the alcohol has been removed. It is not to be used for low-alcohol beer.
Fruit Flavoured/Fruit-Based Soft Drinks	Crushes and Squashes	06.05.02.01	Crushes and Squashes Type is to be used for drinks with a fruit base to which other ingredients have been added and which require dilution before consumption. This type must not be used for fruit juice drinks.
	Cordials	06.05.02.02	Cordials Type is to be used for other drinks which may or may not have a fruit flavour and which require dilution before consumption.
	Fruit Juice Drinks	06.05.02.03	Fruit Juice Drinks Type is to be used for products which consist of fruit juice with other ingredients added (but which are not fruit nectars) which are consumed without further dilution.
	Soft Drinks - Fruit-Based, Other	06.05.02.99	Soft Drinks - Fruit-Based, Other Type is to be used for fruit-based soft drinks that cannot be more appropriately included in another type. The creation of the Fruit Juice Drinks Type should reduce the number of products allocated to this type.
Frozen Soft Drinks	Drinks - Frozen	06.05.03.01	Drinks – Frozen Type is to be used for drinks that are sold frozen or intended to be frozen before consumption. This includes “ice poles” and “slush” products.
Powdered Soft Drinks	Drinks - Powdered	06.05.04.01	Drinks – Powdered Type is to be used for dehydrated soft drinks that are to be re-constituted in water before consumption.
Non Carbonated Soft Drinks	Soft Drinks - Regular Non-carbonated	06.05.05.01	Soft Drinks - Regular Non-carbonated, Type is to be used for products which consist of non-carbonated (still) soft drinks and for which no reduced-calorie or diet claim is made in the labelling and which contain sugar as the principal sweetening agent. It also includes similar products which purport to be natural mineral water or spring water but which contain flavours, sweetening agents and other added ingredients.
