9. Foods for Particular Nutritional Uses

This Clan, as the name indicates, is for foods which are for a particular nutritional purpose. There are two main Families included in this Clan.

The first Family is for all foods specifically intended to be fed to babies, infants and toddlers. All such foods must be included here and must not be included in other Clans which could be considered to be more appropriate to the specific food type. For example baby milk powders must be included here and not as dried milk and prepared dishes such as, for example, beef and carrots and pureed apple and banana must be included here and not in a meat product, fruit product or prepared meal type.

The second family is for products which are required as the consumer is intolerant to normal products or who wants a diet that is higher or lower in nutrients than would be available in normal foods. This includes food intended to be consumed by body builders and similar as a supplement to their normal diet.

This clan should not be used for foods which are intended to be consumed by vegetarians or vegans as these foods are not consumed for a particular nutritional purpose. Such foods should be included in types more appropriate to their nature, most probably in the Fruit and Vegetable Clan

Baby and Infant Foods in Jars	Baby Foods in Jars	09.01.05.01	Baby and Infant Foods in Jars Type has been introduced to accommodate those products intended to be fed to babies, infants and toddlers and which are contained in a jar. These products should no longer be included in the Baby Foods - Other type.
Ready to Feed Liquid Formulas	Baby Foods – Ready to Feed Liquid Formulas	09.01.06.01	Baby Foods – Ready to Feed Liquid Formulas Type is for products of this description intended to be used as an alternative to human milk and to be fed babies and infants.
Baby and Infant Foods - Other	Baby and Infant Foods - Other	09.01.99.99	Baby and Infant Foods - Other Type is to be used for other products that are intended to be fed to babies, infants and toddlers and which cannot be more appropriately included in another type. The introduction of the baby and infant food in jars type should greatly reduce the number of products being included in this type.

9.2. Family 9.02 – Other Foods for Particular Nutritional Uses
