18.1. Food Supplements

This type must not be used for foods consumed in normal quantities even if they are promoted as providing an elevated source of trace elements. Glucosamine sulphate supplements should be included in this type.
Vitamin and Mineral Supplements	Vitamin and Mineral Supplements	18.01.03.01	Vitamin and Mineral Supplements Type is to be used for food supplements in the form of a tablet, capsule or liquid which are consumed to provide a source of vitamins and trace elements. This type must not be used for foods consumed in normal quantities even if they are promoted as providing an elevated source of vitamins and trace elements.
Herbal Supplements	Herbal Supplements	18.01.04.01	Herbal Supplements Type is to be used for food supplements in the form of a tablet, capsule or liquid which describe themselves as “Herbal”. This type must not be used for foods consumed in normal quantities even if they are promoted as being “herbal”.

18.2. Oils and Fats

Vegetable Fats and Oils	Vegetable Oil (other than olive oil)	18.02.02.01	Vegetable Oil (other than olive oil) Type is to be used for products consisting of vegetable oil (other than olive oil) and includes oil derived from seeds such as peanut and sesame.
	Margarine	18.02.02.02	Margarine Type is to be used for the traditional product which has a fat content not less than 80 per cent and which has not had the water content reduced. It is not to be used for reduced and low fat spreads
	Low Fat Spread	18.02.02.03	Low Fat Spread Type is to be used for spreads containing vegetable oil but which are not margarine and have a fat content of less than 80 per cent. This type should be used for all spreads described as reduced.
	Ghee - Vegetable	18.02.02.04	Ghee – Vegetable Type is to be used for products described as such.
	Vegetable Suet	18.02.02.05	Vegetable Suet Type is to be used for products that consist of solid vegetable fat.
	Olive Oil	18.02.02.06	Olive Oil Type is to be used for products described as such
	Vegetable Oils – Other	18.02.02.99	Vegetable Oils - Other Type is to be used for any vegetable oils which cannot be more appropriately included in another type. It should not be used from oils derived from seeds such as peanut and sesame.

18.3. Honey and Honey Products

If it is thought that a food product cannot be categorised other than as this type then this should be brought to the attention of the database administrator and either guidance will be provided or a new type may be created if appropriate. This type must not be used as a “rubbish bin”!
